A Perfect Little Afternoon

My girl is a figure skater and she's been working pretty hard the past while preparing for a competition tomorrow. She was supposed to practice today, but I thought I'd treat her with a surprise afternoon off. First stop, off to London Drugs to buy some makeup. Normally, I am completely against children wearing any kind of makeup, with the exception of a little Lipsmacker once in a while (Dr. Pepper anyone?). However, my pale little girl looks like a ghost out on the ice without a little help, so we bought her own mascara, lip gloss, and blush, plus a little bag to carry it all in of course. Okay, I admit it...it was fun. I want a girly daughter! But the makeup is still only for competitions.

Next we came home and decided to do some crafting. We borrowed the book "Horse Crafts" by Linda Hendry from the local library recently, so we decided to build Mr. Sock Horse here. Pretty cute. He's awfully charming with his long legs and crooked ears. We cut and sewed and chatted and ate fresh banana bread. The whole time we listened to The Chipmunks on itunes (her music). It was a pretty great afternoon.

I also had the time to finish this tote bag. I started it just after New Years and started the finishing this past week. I'm horrible about finishing things. I have a pile of unfinished projects down in my craft room. This is based on a pattern from Bag Style. It's a little narrower than the pattern because I used a lighter weight yarn, but I like it.

Look it even has a pocket.

Well I'm off to join my husband "Javier" (more on that later) on the couch for some television time. He's been serenading me with Guitar Hero III for the last while. Have a nice weekend and wish us luck on the competition.

I'm sure your little girl was thrilled to wear some makeup. I remember mom letting me wear her bright blue eyeshadow... I was so excited!

Thanks so much for the supportive comment the other day. I really appreciate it.

Wowwee! A pocket in the purse! How fancy! Glad to see that I'm not the only one with projects to be completed!

Hope the competition goes well! It is great experience for her and good for esteem building! I'm sure the makeup will give her an extra boost of excitement & confidence!

Oops, forgot to mention: thanks for the Horse Crafts tip! It'll be a great gift for a friend who just had a baby! Your horse project turned out great!

Good luck to your little girl! Will you post a photo of the costume? And the make-up, too? I'd love to see them - I bet she looked so cute.
I have saved photos of MJ & saucy in some of their old dance routines...I'm holding them for ransom!!!
