The adventures of Grown-Up Mommy

Remember Grown-Up Mommy? Way back it September I was feeling so proud of myself. Ready to tackle breakfast, lunch, and dinner with nary a complaint. Armed with a binder full of menus and recipes and a freezer full of baked goods, I was ready to face anything that school and a slew of after-school activities.

The first month was great. Shopping on Sundays ensured my cupboards and fridge were well-stocked with all the ingredients necessary to pull together a veritable culinary masterpiece every day, or at least a good dinner. Oh, it felt good. School lunches, you ask? Yes, I pulled them together without breaking a sweat and without having to resort to PB&J sandwiches, a staple from previous years. And breakfasts, nothing boring for Lizzie. There were toast and pancakes, as well as the occasionally smoothie. And dinners were a breeze. I tell you folks, I was riding high.

Things started to slip a bit at the beginning of October. I worked a Saturday night shift and didn't wake up to purchase groceries for the week. This was the beginning of the end, until Grown-Up Mommy became completely derailed by our holiday to Florida in October. And I've been trying to catch up ever since and Fly-By-The-Seat-Of-My-Pants Mommy has ruled the roost.

Today Grown-Up Mommy tried to gain control in a no-holds barred grudge match at the grocery store. Armed with a well-prepared shopping list and backed by a week's menu at home, Grown-Up Mommy filled her cart with healthy ingredients. Fly-By-The-Seat-Of-My-Pants Mommy tried to fill the cart with some convenience foods, but Grown-Up Mommy stood firm. Victory!

Now Grown-Up Mommy is not going to just sit back and rest on her laurels. She knows that it is a constant battle against that lazy Fly-By-The-Seat-Of-My-Pants Mommy who likes to order takeout and stop for frozen pizzas on the way home from work. Grown-Up Mommy will strive to prepare meals ahead of time and have them ready for those busy nights. Grown-Up Mommy put Lizzie and her friend to work today filling the cookie-void we are experiencing. Grown-Up Mommy will make a lasagna for tomorrow night and feed her family nutritious home-made chicken noodle soup.

Go Grown-Up Mommy!

pick a day (or three) a month where Fly-By-The-Seat-of-My-Pants Mommy gets to rule the roost ... Awesome Grown-Up Mommy deserves a day off, too ... and who knows, maybe Fly-By will just throw in the towel and bow down to Grown-Up Mommy. :)

Well don't leave Fly-By-The-Seat-of-Your-Spanx Mommy out in the yard completely. She might come in handy one day. Put a frozen lasagna in the back of the freezer and cut yourself some slack, sistah. You've got a lot on your frozen tinfoil plate right now.
