Banquet decor help?

While this Barbie-themed decor is lovely and would be the envy of many 5 year old girls, I'm looking for something a bit more sophisticated for my nursing graduation banquet. Somehow, I've found myself involved in the decorating committee. So I'm looking to all of you talented and very creative bloggers for some ideas.

My idea is to incorporate the traditional nursing cap into the centerpiece. The black band will possibly have "Nursing Grad 2008" printed across it. It will be in December, so I'm thinking that maybe we should bring some wintery elements in. The banquet facility may possibly have vases, but I'm sure we can figure out something it they don't, so I would like to use flowers, but we have a VERY SMALL budget to work with and 20-30 tables to decorate. Remember, I'm in the Prairies and flowers in December are not cheap.

Please help. I know there is lots of creativity out there and I know many of you will have great ideas.

Hmmm...I am going to think about your decorations. But in the meantime, I thought you might like to visit summerkitcheninteriors.blogspot.com

They have a family business of refinishing and polish Airstreams for 40 years! I just came across this and thought of you... Now I think of you when I see anything to do with Airstreams. Feel free to let me know when you are sick of it!

Tongue depressors as place cards or name tags.

Jello shots in those little cups that pills are served in.

Those long sheets of paper used on examining tables could be the table cloths.

First Aid kits for the goody bags.

Oh wait? You wanted serious ideas? I'd go with simple winter greenery for the floral arrangements and stick with the winter theme you already described.

When I think of nursing I think of people with caring hearts. Is there any way incorporate a bit of red with the cap ...maybe with red chocolate hearts? (without getting too valentine's day'ish?) Or forget the chocolate and just have artsy hearts in a mixed media or paper design attached to each cap?

Maybe a nice short slogan about "Sharing hearts, caring for others"

Just a thought!

I'd go for winter greenery. You can get some fresh greenery in from BC that will outlast much of what you get in stores. (Email me if you need a supplier and I'll try to get info from a friend). Check out my December 2007 posts as an example: I made my table centerpiece for $10 and it was a fundraiser. Gives you an idea of the markup in florist shops.

I'm going to ponder this one and get back to you, but the cap idea is GENIUS really. I agree, December is not the time to invest in flowers around here. You can buy bags of faux snow and crystal stuff at the dollar store... that's a start.

I have no ideas, but I wanted to thank you for the tea towel. It arrived today, what a wonderful surprise. I'm glad you're enjoying the book.
