Last night we had dinner at my in-laws (this is the lovely peaceful view off the deck in their backyard). My mother-in-law is an amazing cook and I always tend to overeat. We have rules for eating at each others' houses. We never let the visitor do any work, no cooking, no cleaning. Occasionally, I cheat and bring dessert. Last night I brought the cheesecake. Homemade with delicious graham cracker crust, milk chocolate cheesecake, & marshmallow meringue topping. Magnifique!
I didn't have a chance against this cheesecake. It was Smores Cheesecake and it was delicious. All three times I've eaten it in the last 2 days. I should be ashamed of myself, but it was just too yummy! I just finished a huge piece. Bigger than the one pictured above. These are Javier's fingers. I think he may be trying to send me a message about taking too many pictues.
My mother-in-law loves owls (hooters!) and she's accumulated quite a collection of pictures and sculptures. I was commenting how admiring many bloggers would be of some of her pieces and Javier suggested doing an "owl" post in honour of this collection. I only know the origin of a few of these pieces, but they are all darling.
These two little guys came home from New York on a recent trip my in-laws took. I put the spoon behind them to illustrate how tiny they are. They are made of glass.
Incidently, my mother-in-law was also my brownie leader when I was a young girl. I think the proper title is "Brown Owl"! I guess the tradition started early!

Vintage Brownie greeting from one Brownie to another and her leader Brown Owl. I have no idea whether this greeting is still used or not!
that cheesecake looks so jummie, and I love that owl collection!
That view is amazing! I'm averting my eyes from the cheesecake lest it plaster itself to my hips!
I love the owl collection. My grandma has a collection of hundreds and I really should do a photo post about them.
And, suddenly, I have the urge to eat cheesecake. ;)
So many things to say:
1.) Thank you for visiting my blog. So nice to meet you!
2.) That cheesecake looks deish!
3.) The view from your in-laws' balcony is breathtaking!
4.) How amazing that you've known your MIL since Brownie days!
I love owls too. Curiously, Dear Daughter was absolutely terrified of them as a toddler and young girl. We could not go into the bird house at our local zoo because the first exhibit had a tiny ground owl that was all of maybe four inches tall. She would collapse on the ground in terror and refuse to move or be carried past it. About age seven she just as mysteriously got over her phobia, but it was a strange trip for awhile.
thank you for the link to the recipe ... YUM!
Those owls are sweet ... I really like the wooden one that lives on the kitchen window legde & the embriodered one, too. *grins* ... it's winking! :)
Thanks for the cheesecake link! I think I just gained 5 pounds to my hips!!
