Ollie Angelwings

I think my little Oliver is an angel disguised as a cat. See his wings? Just a patch of darker fur on his back but appropriately positioned, no? Of course his behaviour certainly isn't very angelic, so he must be deep undercover.

We thought we'd try some other wings out.

And Rain needed to get in on the action too.

However, both cats discovered it's far more fun to ATTACK the wings than it is to wear them.

Yard Work

As I was leaving for work yesterday morning I spied some large objects on the boulevard beside my house.

A closer look revealed them to be a pair of work boots that had magically appeared in the night. We live on a somewhat busy avenue with plenty of pedestrians making their way home from the bars downtown some nights. We've had beer cans, cigarette packages, and once, oddly, an abandoned baby stroller. This is our first pair of boots however. I'm curious to know whether they'll remain there until the next time Javier mows the lawn.

I finally convinced myself that the dead plants had to go, plus I weeded a little today. Pretty new floral replacements, no?

And a little dash of red begonia to brighten anyone's day.

Happy Monday!

My favourite thrifty find EVER

For a while now, I've been searching for the perfect piece to put in my entryway. It had to be something functional - a bench or perhaps an armoire for storing those bulky winter coats. It also had to be cool - antique or vintage. The perfect piece eluded me in all my searches of antique stores recently. Either too expensive or not quite right, you know.

Until yesterday!

I found this in the thrift store down the hill- the store I haunt several times a week, yet rarely find anything intriguing or treasure-worthy at. I saw this tall brown cupboard as soon as I made my way into the furniture area, and I really, truly did a dance of joy when I spied the price tag - $50! Squealing ensued, just so you know.

At just over 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide, it will be perfect for my entryway.

Granted, it's pretty rustic. Note the cardboard back it currently wears. However, I think a nice piece of MDF will fix that right up.

This will be its new home. Of course now I have to find new homes for these pictures. Oh the hardship.

I love a good find...(smile)

Speaking of neglect

Check out these sad specimens on my front porch.

Not sure why one plant is thriving while the other is so obviously dead.

Poor thing. It's wearing the wreath that fell off my door like a hat,
but I don't think it's a very good disguise.

So what have I been doing instead of looking after my plants?

Well, I've been drinking coffee.

And eating a most delicious lemon bundt cake.

And finishing this book, which was most delightful.

What have you been up to this fine summer day?

Poor neglected little blog

The only thing that is more neglected than this blog is the sorry looking patch of weeds in my back lane.
I know, I know, it looks like some carefree English garden, but it really is just my back alley. Thankfully, some of the pretty wildflowers by neighbour planted have migrated to my side of the alley adding a little colour to the mess.

In my defense, we've been away for a few weeks on a summer holidays down in the States. We went many places, but rest assured, coffee was always readily available.

In fact, I finally answered a call to the Mother Ship. The first Starbucks in the whole entire world!

But that wasn't the true focus of our trip. My darling Javier booked us two nights in a suite at the Inn at the Market. Sigh... My favourite moment of the entire trip was discovering that we had our own roof top terrace overlooking the market and the bay. Sigh...I LOVE Seattle.

I won't bore you with more family pictures, but some other highlights of the trip include Fourth of July fireworks and parade in Coeur d'alene, screaming our heads off at Silverwood and many stops at antique stores.

I didn't buy a lot of things on this trip, which is unusual for me. However, these chairs have been at the top of my wish list for a while. I'm toying around with spray painting them a different colour as I'm not a fan of dark green and the rug has to go as well, but I love them.

And these vintage wicker picnic baskets had to follow me home as well.

I hope you are all enjoying your summers so far and having many adventures too.
